You are the bread and the knife, the crystal goblet and the wine. You are the dew on the morning grass and the burning wheel of the sun. You are the white apron of the baker, and the marsh birds suddenly in flight. However, you are not the wind in the orchard, the plums on the counter, or the house of cards. And you are certainly not the pine-scented air. There is just no way that you are the pine-scented air. It is possible that you are the fish under the bridge, maybe even the pigeon on the general's head, but you are not even close to being the field of cornflowers at dusk. And a quick look in the mirror will show that you are neither the boots in the corner nor the boat asleep in its boathouse. It might interest you to know, speaking of the plentiful imagery of the world, that I am the sound of rain on the roof. I also happen to be the shooting star, the evening paper blowing down an alley and the basket of chestnuts on the kitchen table. I am also the moon in the trees and the blind woman's tea cup. But don't worry, I'm not the bread and the knife. You are still the bread and the knife. You will always be the bread and the knife, not to mention the crystal goblet and--somehow--the wine.

who knows what happens when you die? hell, what if heaven is a lie? to say that you know more than me about the afterlife, i swear. why should i even care? let's live until we're dead. for all we know, we all died long ago and we're already there. "god save our souls..." "we know everything..." "consume and destroy..." what have we got left? ruins of heaven? we sit with fingers in our ears hoping we'll never have to hear the ugly sound of truth as it flows like a river to the sea. kneel and pray for salvation, a blissful ignorant nation. the ugly truth is if the end is near, you don't know where you'll be. god save our souls. stars fall, and the people of earth delight in a new day. the stars will align and the waves will crash down, carrying our city away. and i guess my greatest fear is just of dying alone. as another shot of alcohol sinks into my bones. and one more night i'll go to sleep only to wake up drenched in my own sweat with my fists tightly clenched. as i prayed for eternity in spite of the end, i found the truth in the bottom of a bottle of my new best friend. i hope we'll gather round and put up a toast, as we sit and we watch, and we wait for the end of the world. take me down. take me down. take me home.

i'm just an accident waiting to happen, a time bomb about to explode. you are the ocean and i am the wall. you will keep crashing and i will erode. let's stay where we are, i'm too frightened to move. i've seen inside your heart, there's nothing left to prove. though it scares me, the fall might break me, i just have to see. take me and break me. respective masters of soul and disaster, we're spiraling out of control. your fate has been tailored, i'm fearful of failure. i think i'm scared you won't let go. i am the coaster, but you're just a child, and this is a dangerous ride. i'm the half-buried body, and you are the sand. we're both losing ground to the incoming tide. should we stay where we are, cause you're frightened to move? you've seen in my heart. i've nothing left to prove. i'd rather desert you than take the chance to hurt you, but i can't make you see.

take some time to inspect the damage. what was it you lost in the wreckage? innocence left behind and forgotten, sour grapes long spoiled and rotten. i'm not jealous, i just know that it will crumble someday. you'd know it too, if you'd seen it my way. roots gone rotten, friends forgotten, all the lies that you were caught in... you'd know it too if you'd seen it my way.

years i locked myself up in my room, fantastic thoughts locked up inside my head - epic tales of happiness, imaginary worlds of no regret - hoping one day i'd know the same. wishing i could leave new england soon. find a world where love and peace aren't dead. search the skies and still i find the human race is deaf and blind. not a single person is ashamed. the world outside is what i want. it's what i've always needed. the world is ours, we'll be just fine, no matter how we're cheated. when i'm in california the miles between won't change a thing, i know. no matter how far i've gone, i will always find my way back home. disregard your goddamn atlas. we can find ourselves without this. a couple of my best friends, and wherever we are, we're home. the world is small and so amazing. hearts are warm and souls are blazing. take a look around you and look into the great unknown. forget the past, enjoy your fate. love your life, it's not too late. finally let go of hate, everything's adding up. see the world for what it is - magic waiting to happen. come on man, where have you been? everything's wonderful now. when i'm in california, the miles between won't change a thing, i know. no matter how far i've gone, i will always find my way back home.
